Confucious Chapter 4 Quote

There were many analects but to me 4.14 stood out.
The Analect says
"The Master said "Do not be concerned that you lack an official position, but rather concern yourself with the means by which you might become established. Do not be concerned that no one has heard of you, but rather strive to become a person worthy of being known."

Overall Quote Meaning
One way to interpret this quote would be to say that it encourages "Ren" or goodness. Being a person worthy of being known is saying to try to be good to others and to try to achieve greatness and not expecting it to just come. The Quote means that the path is more important than the finish line. How you ge there is more important than just arriving.

Personal Connection
I recall hearing this many times in different ways and I find it interesting that It could have possibly come from Confucius. In school, from peers and teachers you can always hear the message "Try your best. I also heard "Strive to become a person worthy of being known" from my grandfather. It is something similar and better in my opinion as it is more complete and it covers a bigger area.

This quote by Confucius is heard differently in many daily life occasions and it talks about the path and how one should strive to be the best through the path to have the greater ending. Confucius usually talks about the path and in this quote you can understand why. It leads you into a path of Ren and of remembrance.
